About Eric

Eric Plaag was born and raised in Virginia, where he completed his BA in Religion and Philosophy at the College of William and Mary and an MFA in Fiction Writing at George Mason University. After living for nine years in various New England towns, he moved to South Carolina in 2002 and completed his PhD in American History at the University of South Carolina in 2006. Since then, he has made his living as a writer, photographer, historian, and documentary filmmaker. He is delighted to call the South “home” once again.

Eric has worn many hats in his lifetime, and he is an ardent believer in trying on new ones every so often. Aside from his professional interests, he is an unrepentant traveler, a rambling storyteller, an audacious karaoke fiend, a faithful member of the Church of Baseball, and father to an eleven-year-old oracle. He shares his Columbia, SC, home with his wife Teresa, his son, and three elderly but nonetheless incorrigible cats. When not making images or stringing together words, he also spends an immense amount of time pondering the mysteries of the universe.
